Moved to Macon, Georgia in 1855 and established business there, fought in the Confederate Army, married Virginia Conner on 24 July 1866 and started the Southern branch of the Hopson Family.

Military Service: Bet. 1861-1865, served in the Georgia forces.

Hopson, William Allis--private July 6, 1861. Transferred to 2nd Company, Millican's Independent Signal Corps (1st Company Independent Signal Corps) July 21, 1862. Appointed 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant of the 62nd Regiment, GA Inf. July 7, 1863. Transferred to the 8th Regiment GA Cavalry as Adjutant July 11, 1864.

Wounded at Burgess Mill, VA, November 1864.

Furloughed for 30 days, account of disability, November 16, 1864. Furlough extended for 30 days February 17, 1865.

At home on wounded furlough close of war.

Died in New York City August 31, 1873.

Death Notice from Atlanta Constitution, 2 September 1873: DEATH Mr. W.A. Hopson died suddenly yesterday at five o'clock in New York, of inflammation of the bowels and brain. His death is greatly regretted. His family has the sympathy of the public.
