Louis B. Cunningham departed this life on November 8, 2010. Born July 26, 1928 in Spartanburg, SC to the late Lillie Mae Cunningham-Shell. He was married to his former wife, Elizabeth Paradise Cunningham to this union was 3 children. With a true Christian spirit, he gave himself unselfishly, uncompromising, and repeatedly not only to his family but to untold others whom he served as a friend.

At the age of 18, he moved to New Haven after serving 1 year in the army in 1950. He was called back for the Korean War for 2 years. Louis earned the Korean Service Metal, Bronze Star and the United Service Metal.

He and his family were faithful members of St. Matthews Baptist Church until he joined the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was also member of the Male Choir and Usher Board.
Louis was a Prince Hall Mason for many years, served as Worshipful Master and Worthy Patron.

He is survived by his special friend, Christine Thompson, 2 sons, Benjamin (Janie) Cunningham of Minneapolis, MN, Eudell (Vina) Cunningham of Victorville, CA. He also leaves sister, Maggie Hamrick, adopted sister, Ursula Connie Bais, special cousin, Robert Hill, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by stepfather, Odell Shell, daughter, Veronica Cunningham, adopted son, Vernon Thompson, grandson, Eudell Cunningham.

A wake will be held Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St, New Haven, CT from 5-9 p.m. Eastern Star Service to begin at 6:30 p.m. Masonic service to begin at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St, New Haven, CT. Calling hours from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Interment in Beaverdale Cemetery.
