KS_Newton -- Laura Schmidt, 89, passed away Feb. 18, 2013, at Bethesda Home in Goessel.She was born July 2, 1923, in Newton, the daughter of Henry and Ida Kutnik Schroeder. She was a homemaker, Avon representative and 4-H leader.Laura married Jacob Schmidt on Nov. 15, 1942. He passed away on Nov. 15, 1999. She was a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church and a lifetime Goessel area resident, moving from a farm to Goessel in 1978 and to Bethesda Home in March 2012.She is survived by three sons, Vernon Schmidt of Newton, Norman and wife, Patsy Schmidt, of Goessel, Larry and wife, Kela Schmidt, of Goessel; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jacob; and son, Dewane.Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., with family present 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Goessel. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel, with Pastor Linda Ewert officiating. Private burial will be in the Goessel Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Bethesda Home, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 303 E. Main, Goessel, KS 67053.
