Nellie R. Middendorp, 92, Prairie Farm, Wis., died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Pioneer Nursing Home, Prairie Farm.

She was born April 3, 1920, to Nelson and Pearl (Stalker) Sabin. She was raised in Hillsdale Township.

Nellie married Raymond Middendorp on Oct. 24, 1936, at Rice Lake. They farmed in Ladysmith until May 1937 and then returned to Hillsdale Township, where he worked with Nellie's father doing carpentry work.

Nellie was a seamstress from home and also a 4-H club leader for six years. She taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Mission Circle and Ladies Aid, where she held officer positions for many years.

In the fall of 1950, she started working at Pine Café in Prairie Farm for Herb and Thelma Carter. In May of 1954 they bought the café. Nellie and the girls ran the business until May 30, 1963. Nellie also worked as head cook at Prairie Farm high school for two years.

In August 1976, she started working at Helland Drug Store, Barron, and continued working there until the 1980s. Ericksons bought them out to build a mini mall and she continued working for Ericksons until April 1985, when she retired. She began to do many crafts at her home.

In December 1985 they headed for Arizona with their camper, where they spent their winters until spring of 1996. Nellie enjoyed many years of square dancing from 1970 until 1993, when she had to give it up because of Ray's arthritis.

Surviving are daughters Charlotte (Herb) Glaser and Nina (James) Lewis, both of Ridgeland; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Nancy Mittelstadt, a brother Dean Sabin, a granddaughter Debbie Wahl and a great-granddaughter Vanessa Mittelstadt.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, from United Lutheran Church, Prairie Farm, with Rev. Shelly Schultz officiating and interment at Sunset Cemetery, Prairie Farm.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to services at the church.
