She was born on May 17, 1943, to Hubert and Blanche O'Bryan Spencer. She graduated from Tuscola High School. Ellen married Garl Burns on September 2, 1962. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2012.
Surviving are three sons, Barry (Amy) Burns of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kevin (Rachel) Burns of Monticello and Brian of Phoenix, Arizona. One daughter, Kerri Burns Whitton of Champaign; fourteen granddarlings; six great-granddarlings; two sisters, Carolyn Spencer Hubbart of Champaign and Lyla Spencer Stewart of Savoy; three brothers, Jim (Donna) Spencer and Clarence "Tuck" (Sue) Elder, both of Tuscola, and Mike (Cheryl) Elder of Florida.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Gary; a grandson, Michael; and a great-granddaughter, Emma.
Ellen was employed for 26 years at Humko Foods in Champaign. She enjoyed cooking, crafts and gardening. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Urbana.
