Supervisor and crane operator for Newport News Shipyard as well as a part time carpenter and diesel mechanic at Wilson County Techinical Institute. A kind and loving father to me, his only child. Daddy was a very hard working, kind hearted man with an infinite amount of patience and a strong sense of duty and responsibilty. He wasn't a church goer but had a deep love and respect for God Almighty. He grew gardens and fruit trees and always kept chickens. He had his own garden at eleven years old because he loved vegetables. He knew hard times during the depression and was able to conserve and utilize his resources wisely. He took very good care of my mama and me. Mama never had to work a public job. He saved his money, moved us back to North Carolina, built our home himself and it was paid for the day we moved in. I live in that same home today and I hope he would approve of the improvements and work we have done. I'm sure he would, he always was encouraging to me. Daddy I wish you knew how much of a positive influence you were on me, God couldn't have given me a better father than you.
