A medical patient four days. J. Wendell Jones of 69 East Merritt Street, Plains Township, died late yesterday . afternoon In Wilkes-Barre General Hospital He was a license clerk in the office of the Luzerne County treasurer more than 20 years, Born in Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Jones was a son of the late John R. and Mary Ann Evans Jones. He was educated in city Wilkes-Barre. High School. He resided in Plains, the past 40 years. A veteran of World - War 1, he served with U. S. Army in France and was active In veterans and community affairs. He was a member of Joseph E. ConIon Post 558, American Legion. Plains, and served as financial secretary of the post for many years. He was a charter member of Plains Lions Club and its treasurer 20 years. Prior to his employment at the courthouse, Mr. Jones was chief clerk for Conlon Coal Company. His wife, the former Jean MacKellar, died August 7. 1963. Mr. Jones was a member of Grant Street Presbyterian Church. . Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Alfred Stortz, Wilkes-Barre and a nephew,. Alfred F. Stortz, Jr., Nanticoke. Funeral will be held from H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, 451 North Main Street. Mondav t 1 with Rev. Duane H Collins, Grant Street Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Hollenback Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9,.
