Mr. Buckland came to this area in 1887 and filed on a homestead in Stevens County and proved it up.
In the year 1887 he was married to Beatrice Farrell born in 1859 in Macon, Alabama,and to this union five children were born, four of whom are living- Samuel A.of Wichita, Joseph E.,of Elkhart, Phoebe S.,(Mrs.John Bolin) of Liberal and Daniel Phillip of Ft.Riley.
Mr. Buckland owned a plumbing shop in Liberal for a number of years, having sold it recently.
His death was caused from an operation on one of his toes, blood poison having set in.
Funeral services were held March 23 by the Rev.Bolton, and interment made in the Liberal cemetery. The host of friends extend their sympathy to the heart-broken family.
