Jacqueline Poole Wade went to be with her Lord on September 26, 2012, while in the comfort of her own home and close family. Born in Hampton, VA on August 25, 1932, she was the only daughter of the late Gordon Ault Poole and Helen Turnbull Poole. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Poole, Jr.

A graduate of Hampton High School in 1948, she went on to earn a Bachelor degree from Christopher Newport College and then a Masters degree with straight A's from Golden Gate University, both while she was working full time. She was employed by several different organizations while living on the Virginia Peninsula, including the Army Transportation Command, Lockheed Martin and Dow Chemical. Moving west, she was employed by two major oil companies, working as office manager and information technology specialist. Her greatest joy was her work in Chicago with Episcopal Charities and Community Services, first as a volunteer, then as Administrative Assistant where she served nobly for almost a decade. Her Southern charm and elegance belied the forcefulness of her personality when dealing with Chicago funding sources, corporate executives, and the oversight of 13 major social agencies providing millions in services to Chicago's neediest. She redefined the meaning of "to move mountains," said Canon Monroe, who worked with her, "she will be sorely missed." She enjoyed modeling and taught aerobics throughout her active life.

She retired in 1993 and moved to her new home on the Outer Banks of NC. Loving to travel, she had favorite cities in the US, the UK, Central America, Europe and Israel. She was active for many years with the Dare Arts Council, and also in her local Episcopal Church, St. Andrew's-By-the-Sea, serving with great joy as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Wade, who she married in 1953 in The Chapel of the Centurion in Ft. Monroe, VA. She is also survived by her son, Robert, Jr. and his wife Kathy of St. Simons Island, GA; two grandsons, Robert Cary Wade III, also of St. Simons, and Christopher Ryan Wade of Macon, GA.

The family would like to offer special thanks for the help and attention provided by Bernice, Kathi, Natalie, Routh, Rosa, and Tamelia of the Dare Hospice staff. Also, great appreciation to The Rev. Phillip Glick, Rector of St. Andrews, who offered communion services at her bedside during the latter stages of her illness. Jackie never lost the ability of a slight smile for her friends and loved ones, even though the ravages of a 12-year battle with dementia left her incapable of any other form of communication.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Chapel at St. Andrew's By-the-Sea, 4212 South VA Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC at 10 am, October 8, 2012, followed by a light brunch gathering of family and friends in the Parish Hall. A private service will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church Cemetery in Hampton, VA for burial of her cremains. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Dare Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954, or to the Altar Guild, St. Andrew's By-the-Sea. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
