He was called "Bennie" by some people. He died of a heart attack in San Francisco. Benjamin and his first wife Nellie were divorced in about 1910. Ben is buried in lot #393 in Section D in Cypress Lawn Cemetery in San Mateo County, California.

In her will, his former wife Nellie left her half of the lot to to Bennie. Occupation: Insurance Agent.

Obituary of Benjamin Goodwin, Jr. from the Marine Digest, August 25, 1945 p. 3: "Benjamin Goodwin, retired coast manager of the St. Paul Fire & Marine Group and early resident of the Puget Sound area, died of a heart attack in San Francisco August 11, at the age of 86. Mr. Goodwin came West in 1890, starting a local insurance agency in what was then the pioneer town of Anacortes. In 1898, he became a special agent of the St. Paul and the American Central in the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain territories, and was made assistant manager of the companies in San Francisco a year later. In 1918 he became sole manager, a position which he retained until his retirement in 1938. He continued to maintain offices in the companies' headquarters until the day of his death."

From the research of Kerry Serl: "Benjamin, came to Washington with his wife Nellie in 1890 and settled in Anacortes (Nellie’s and Benjamin’s obituaries). They moved to Seattle in 1893 where Benjamin was the president of the Gazzam Insurance Agency (Polk Directories). In 1898, Benjamin moved to San Francisco (Benjamin’s obit and Polk Directory). In 1908, Nellie Goodwin, Benjamin’s wife moves back to Seattle, without Benjamin (Polk Directory). She is a housekeeper at the Manhatten Hotel (Polk Directories). In 1912, Nellie moved in with Ervin’s family (Polk Directory)."

Relatives have said that Ben probably "fooled around with other women." Ben and Nellie divorced July 1, 1910 in Washington state. His brother Ervin took the side of Ben's wife Nellie in the divorce struggle. Ben's second wife is thought to have been Ben's secretary.
