Army Special Forces Green Beret Sgt Tycz was assigned to the Army's 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Tycz was killed in the crash of a U.S. Air Force MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft. Peter was a 1988 graduate of Tonawanda High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1988 as a Fire Support Specialist, where he served on active duty until 1990, at which time he joined the Reserves. Peter returned to active duty in 1993, and completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1997 where he was assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served on missions in Bosnia, the Persian Gulf War, Panama, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Award, NATO Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge, Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, and many others. Peter is survived by his wife and the proud father of five daughters - determined to protect their freedom at any cost.
