William T. Waldrip of Crab Apple, Illinois, enlisted in August of 1862 as a Private in Co. E, 76th Illinois Infantry. He mustered out in April of 1863 and received a disability pension in 1864.
This family was listed in Owl Creek Township, Woodson County, Kansas in 1870 with the additions of Elwood, age 9, Wesley, 6, Thomas, 4, & Grant, 1, all born in Illinois. The 1880 federal and the 1885 Kansas state census list them in Allen County, Kansas.
William T. Waldrip's military service is recorded in the 1885 Kansas State census, GAR records from Allen County, Kansas, Civil War records, and the admittance record from the soldier's homes at Danville, Illinois, and Leavenworth, Kansas. He was discharged from the soldier's home at Leavenworth in August of 1914.
The 1910 census for the town of Chanute in Neosho County, Kansas listed William T. Waldrip, age 84, a widower, living alone, blind, and a survivor of the Union Army during the Civil War. His wife had died in Indiana in 1903. He is buried here where his son, Grant, is also buried.
Census reports listed him as a farmer, a mail carrier, and an insurance agent.
