away on Oct. 14, 2011.
She was born May 30, 1918, to William Thomas and Susie Anna Brown on the family homestead
located on Mann Creek.
Edith attended Deer Creek school and took pride in her grades and perfect attendance in
spite of a 4-plus mile horseback ride each way from the homestead.
Edith married her husband of 70 years, Melvin Bain, Nov. 1, 1935, and together they
raised six children: sons Ralph, Tom, Delbert and Marvin; and daughters Ruby and Marie.
In 1955, Edith and her family relocated to Potlatch where Melvin worked at the PFI lumber
mill until retirement, and Edith pursued her favorite endeavors: gardening, canning,
baking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and puzzle solving. In addition, with hammer and
saw in hand, she remodeled the home and still had time for minor auto repairs and
maintenance. Obviously Edith loved to be challenged.
Following Melvin's death she returned to her Weiser-area roots in 2006.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, son Tom, and two older brothers,
Walter and Henry Brown. She is survived by sons Ralph, Delbert and Marvin; daughters Ruby
and Chuck Riepma, and Marie and Wally Good; 17 grandchildren; and countless great- and
great-great-grandchildren.
At Edith's request immediate burial has taken place in Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser
beside husband Melvin.
