Maxine R. Britton, 86, of Cairo died Monday, July 19, 2004, at Union County Hospital in Anna, IL.

She was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Mounds, IL, daughter of Raymond and Alley Wilkerson Lemons. She married Richmond Britton, who died in 1999.

Maxine was a former manager of Montgomery Ward in Cairo. She was a member of Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church and Cairo VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Candace Taylor of Plantation, Fla.; a sister, Wanda VanNoy of Vanise, Calif.; a brother, Raymond Lemons of Mount Dora, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Harley Showalter officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge, Ill.
