NIX James William, 89, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001. Jim was born June 3, 1911, in Yoakum, TX, and resided in Oklahoma City with his loving wife, Mildred L. Nix, for the past 65 years. He graduated from Purcell High School in 1929, then attended William and Mary College. Prior to his service in the U.S. Army Air Corp, Jim owned and managed two parking lots and a parking garage in downtown Oklahoma City. After returning from the service, he began City Air Conditioning Company on N. May. From this he established Nix Supply on South High Street in Oklahoma City, which later moved to South I-35. While establishing Nix Supply, he founded Nixco Manufacturing and expanded to the Tulsa area. In 1979, he sold Nix Supply and focused solely on Nixco, which he owned until August 2000. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 35 and served as chairman of the baseball league. He was also a member of the Optimist Breakfast Club, Young Men's Club and The First Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City, serving as deacon and active in the Couples Sunday School Class. At one time, Jim owned and flew a PT19 airplane and a Piper Cub. His son, Jimmy's love for drag racing, convinced him to purchase Oklahoma City Raceways, which became a family endeavor. He will be remembered most for saying, "Hurry every chance you get" and upon retirement, "I only work half days, I don't care which twelve hours." He was preceded in death by his son, James W. "Jimmy" Nix, II. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughter, Patsiann Nix Smith and husband, S.C.. "Butch" Smith of Princeton, TX; daughter-in-law, Darla Nix of Oklahoma City; grandson, James W. "Jimmy" Nix, III and wife, Kelly, and great grandchildren, Jamie Nix 10, Andrew Nix 8, and Joshua Nix, 5.
