It's hard to believe it's been six years since Dave left this earth, especially since his spirit is ever-present at his homestead, now known around the world as Burton's Curve.

Dave was well-loved and known for publishing a local railroad calendar featuring the world famous Tehachapi Rail Line, running from Bakersfield to Mojave over the Tehachapi Pass. He was also widely published in several railroad magazines and specialty books.

Family, friends and railfans will always remember Dave at the ready with a new train story or three, and 50 pounds of camera gear in tow. He was always eager to chase down a passing train, often capturing frame-by-frame the raw power and momentum of the American railroad's colorful history. It seemed like he knew everything about each locomotive; where it had come from, where it was headed and what it was carrying. Not surprisingly, his exceptional listening skills and astute powers of observation often helped others get their personal "freight" back on track and headed in a positive direction. At Dave's funeral, dozens of mourners confided that they felt like they had lost a best friend.

For nearly 25 years, Dave loved living just east of the Tehachapi Loop, where his memory will be forever honored at Burton's Curve.

Thanks to the Friends of the Tehachapi Depot, The City of Tehachapi and the Tehachapi Heritage League, many of Dave's photos and railroad artifacts can be viewed at the Tehachapi Depot Railroad Museum.

Dave was pre-deceased by his wife of 25 years and the love of his life, Helen, who passed away on Dec. 26, 2002.

Dave's surviving family celebrates his legacy of passion for the Tehachapi area and the railroad, and honors the memory of the wise, fair and gentle-spirited man we all loved and miss.
