Miss Bessie Chase died Sunday morning, April 1, 1900, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Kate Metz, at Colfax, from cerebral meningitis. She had been in poor health for some time and was confined to her bed for three weeks before the final summons cause.

Miss Chase had almost entered her seventeenth year and was a native daughter of Whitman county.

She left numerous relatives and many friends to mourn her untimely death. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 10 o'clock from the Episcopal church, Rev. Bull officiating.

The church was profuse with potted plants and flowers, and the services were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.

Interment was in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
