DRENNON-Brother R. P. Drennon passed away September 15th at his home in Fort Sumner, N. M., at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 21 days. Funeral services were conducted In the church In Ft. Sumner by his dear and much-loved friend, Brother Dean Brookshire, of Richardson, Texas. They were another Paul and Timothy to each other. He was laid to rest In the Cedar Hill Cemetery In Abilene, Texas. Brother Drennon was born in Grayson County, Texas, and was married to Miss Abbie Wertz in 1916, who survives him. He had preached the gospel for 48 years and had baptized over a thousand people. He had served the local church here for eight years. Not only the members of the church will miss him but all the people of the town loved him dearly. He knew for about twenty months he was going to die of cancer, but he filled the pulpit as long as he was able to be up, which was the last of May when he had a hemorrhage and took his bed. Even then he helped in so many ways, encouraging and giving advice to us who needed it, performing marriages, and many, many other things or services. On the first of July, he resigned but the church here did not accept it for which I will always be thankful. Brother F. L. Hutchinson filled the pulpit for Brother Drennon without pay which was a noble thing on his part. Last Sunday, Brother Hutchinson remarked he would have hated to meet his God if we had let Brother Drennon go when he resigned. For several weeks before he passed away he was apparently at death's door, but not once did he complain or lose courage. To know Brother Drennon was to love him. He will be missed but his work, character, his living example, and practicing what he preached will long be remembered. One daughter, Mrs. George Moore, one son, Bob Drennon, and four grandchildren, all of Abilene, Texas, also survive him. Those wishing to send cards or letters to Sister Drennon may do so by sending them to 2733 Fulton Avenue, Abilene, Texas, where she will make her home with her daughter. I know she will appreciate hearing from me any and all. Many have been blessed by this true soldier of the cross. I feel confident when he laid his armor by he surely is dwelling in peace at home. We who have been so close to him feel so lost without him, but our loss is heaven's gain. Time will heal our wounds but right now our hearts are heavy with sadness. But one thing we can do is look to spend eternity together.
