"Pvt. Ernest C. DeMello served during WWII, Southwest Pacific Theater, U.S. Army, 59th Coast Artillery Corps, Mine Planting Division in the Philippine Islands. He was assigned to protect the harbors of Manilla and Subic Bays. Ernest endured the Bataan Death March begun on April 9, 1942 after the Battle of Bataan and was officially reported a Prisoner of War as of May 7, 1942. Ernest died in Taiwan POW Camp #1 (Taihoku) Formosa 25-121 on the morning that the camp was liberated."
