Dr. John Ira Boyer Funeral Services Being Held Today

Funeral Services for Dr. John Ira Boyer, 56, well known member of the Seaside Hospital staff, who died Sunday at that hospital after a brief illness well be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Mottell's Mortuary. Interment will be made in Inglewood Park Cemetery.
A member of the Seaside Hospital staff for 20 years, Dr. Boyer was born at York, Neb., where he attended York high school. Later he attended University of Nebraska and was graduated from the University of Southern California medical school.
After practicing for a tie in Los Angeles, he came to Long Beach in 1916 and shortly afterward became a member of the Seaside Hospital staff. During World War I he served as a captain in the army medical corps, stationed for two years as ship's surgeon aboard the transport USS Sherman. Since the star of the present war he was one of the leaders and organizers of the local medical center, civilian defense.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. D. W. Heffley, and Mrs. W. N. Hamaker, both of Los Angeles and a nephew, former Deputy City Attorney Harlan V. Boyer.
