SALVATION ARMY VETERAN DIES
George Nichols a veteran in the local Salvation Army corps, died suddenly at 7:15 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, John Nichols, 532 Churchill avenue. He had suffered two strokes of paralysis this past year, the second one coming about three months ago. The relatives believe that he undertook to get up this morning and after sitting in a chair for a moment was seized with another stroke. He sank to the floor and had passed away by the time his daughter (in-law) Mrs. Nichols, reached his side.
He was a man 68 years of age. His residence in the city dates back 24 or 25 years. The work of the Salvation Army greatly interested him. He was a member of the local corps and assisted actively in its work until his health began to fail. At one time he served as door sergeant. He was formerly employed at the oil house at the "Q."
His wife died many years ago. He leaves but the one son to survive him.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his son. This will be a private service and will be in charge of the Salvation Army. Ensign Dandas of Kewanee will officiate. Interment will be made in Linwood cemetery.
