Scott Co., TN. Dick married Poppy Litton Blevins. Dick Hatfield was shot on 27 August 1924, and died a few days later, by John Newton "Newt" Blevins, who was the brother of Dick's sister-in-law. Newt was charged and tried for murder, but was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter because Dick was found to be somewhat at fault too. Newt served a year in the state prison at Huntsville, TN. I have the court papers of this interesting case.
