Lester was living in Creek Co., OK when he entered the service on Sept. 22, 1952.
He was a member of the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division and was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea.
Private Nunley was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
On the application for his military headstone his DOB was listed as Sept. 31, 1934, it was later scratched out and corrected as Sept. 13, 1934. The same with his DOD, first was written Jun 12, 1953, later to be corrected to Jun 11, 1953. In entering these memorials, I've found that some of the headstone ‘mistakes' were caught before the marker was made, most were not.
