William Boulware & his wife, Charity, started the original cemetery as their family cemetery in 1799. It was 3.4's of an acre. In 1818 they deeded a full acre (including the cemetery) to the Methodist Episcopal Church.
In 1909 the congregation moved to Crestwood & the cemetery became its own entity.
