Lawrence Baartman, age 60, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m., Thursday the 25th at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Reverend Dan DeGroot officiated. Interment was at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.
Lawrence Allen Baartman was born June 19, 1943, to Jake and Bertha (Van Maanen) in Rock Valley.
He was united in marriage to Wanda De Leeuw on January 11, 1965, in Boyden, IA.
Lawrence farmed southwest of Rock Valley. He was a member of the Sioux County Extension Board, Sioux County Cattle Feeders, and Rock Valley Christian School Board. Lawrence was an Elder and Deacon at First Christian Reformed Church.
He enjoyed collecting 1/16" tractors, working on his Allis Chalmers "WC," his family, and especially, his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda; sons: Mike (Tammy) of Rock Valley and Terry (Brenda) of Le Mars, IA; daughter, Janelle Baartman of Rock Valley; 5 grandchildren: Kim, Leah, Joel; Caleb, and Dillan Baartman; brothers: Gerald of Sioux Falls and Roger of Canyon Country, C A; sisters: Teresa (Ken) Vander Plas of Hawarden and Betty (Rev. Bill) Vis of Colton, SD.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Bernard, John, Herbert, and Willis; sisters-in-law: Til and Jan Baartman.
