THE REV. WARNER

WEST POINT ­ The Rev. C. Ray Warner, Sr., 84, of West Point died Friday, Oct, 18, 2002 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at West Point First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Watson, Dr. William R. Burch and Dr. Jimmy Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point.

The Rev. Warner is survived by his daughter, Martha Lee (Dickie) McCarthy of West Point; his son, Charlie (Kim) Warner of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) McCarthy of Auburn, Ala., Kelli McCarthy of West Point and Lauren Warner and Chad Warner, both of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.

Born July 27, 1918 in West Point, the Rev. Warner graduated from West Point High School in 1935 and later joined the United States Army where he served during World War II. He retired in 1983 as vice president of Valley National Bank. In 1992, he received his local pastor's license from the North Georgia Conference of the First United Methodist Church and served as pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church in Troup County from 1992 until 1998. For the past four years he served as Minister of Visitation at West Point First United Methodist Church.

A lifelong member of West Point First United Methodist church, the Rev. Warner served as Church School superintendent for 25 years. He also served on the Administrative Board, the Council on Ministries and the Work Area on Evangelism. He had been a delegate to the Annual Conference, a teacher in the adult Sunday school department, youth counselor, and member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. In the LaGrange District of the United Methodist Church, he served as president of the United Methodist Men and District Lay Leader. He was a member of the Board of Managers at Camp Glisson in Dahlonega, Ga., from 1962 until the time of his death. He was the first layman to serve as chairman of the board. He also served on many other North Georgia Conference boards and committees during his lifetime.

The Rev. Warner was an active camper and served as chaplain of the Valley Vagabonds, a family camping club. He was president of the Valley Chamber of Commerce at the time of the dedication of the West Point Dam, and he was a former member of the West Point Rotary Club. The Rev. Warner was the son of the late Daisy Parker Warner and Jarrell M. Warner Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to West Point First United Methodist church for the Camp Glisson Fund.
