OBITUARY

Frank G. Pelzman, 71, the mayor of Woodbridge Township, where he had lived since 1940, died yesterday at his home in the Avenel section of the township.

A Mass will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Andrew's Church, North Madison Ave., Avenel. Arrangements are by the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, Avenel.

Mr. Pelzman, a Democrat, took office as mayor on Jan. 7, 2002, after joining the Woodbridge Township Council in 1988.

He was a financial aid officer at Middlesex County Vocational High School, East Brunswick, before retiring in 1999. He was also vice president of manufacturing at the Stacor Corp. in Newark, where he worked for 28 years, and an executive with the Security Steel Corp. in Avenel.

An Army veteran, he served in Okinawa, Japan from 1955 to 1957.

At St. Andrew's Church, Mr. Pelzman was a lector, Eucharistic minister and financial board member. He was a 3rd degree member of the St. Andrew's Council 5088 Knights of Columbus and a 4th degree member of Rev. John J. Griffith General Assembly 857, Woodbridge.

Mr. Pelzman's civic posts included executive board member and coach of the Fords-Clara Barton Boys Baseball League and committee chairman of Cub Scout Pack 73, Avenel.

Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington before moving to the Avenel section of Woodbridge in 1940.

Surviving are Dorothy, his wife of 48 years; a son, Frank; daughters, Anne Longenhagen and Patti Mulrooney; a sister, Rose Mirkovich, and seven grandchildren
