David Henry Wilkes Stanton passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Chandler in Baraboo Sunday morning at 5 pm Oct 28 1934. He was born in England April 28, 1846 and came to this country with his parents 3 years later (1849). He was the oldest son of Henry Clair and Rhoda Wilkes Stanton, a Civil War veteran and a member of the GAR of Portage, WI. He was confined to his bed 1 year and 9 months. Those who will mourn his passing are 7 Children, 4 Girls and 3 Boys as Follows; Mrs. J A Chandler, Baraboo; Mrs. Arthur Everson, Madison; Miss Bessie Stanton, Elroy; Mrs. H Everson, Wisconsin Dells; Henry C. Stanton, Wausau; Clark J. Stanton Reedsburg; David W Stanton, Rockford; 33 grand-children; 45 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. He was laid to rest in Hillside cemetery, Oct 31, 1934. Six Grandchildren acted as pallbearers. Delbert, David and Leonard Everson; Clyde Stevens, Madison; Wallace Stanton. Richland Center; Richard Stevens of Fort Des Moines. God Bless his sleep. He was the best of Fathers, and a true friend, Mrs. JA Chandler, Baraboo.
