Charlie Warren Ward, Jr., 93, of 2 Long Point Dr., Elizabeth City, NC died in the Albemarle Hospital Monday, September 24, 2012. Mr. Ward was born in Elizabeth City, NC on June 22, 1919 to the late Charlie Warren Ward, Sr. and Mae Garrett Ward. He was a graduate of Strayers Business College in Baltimore, MD. He was the former owner/operator of the Elizabeth City Brick Company having worked in the family business for over 55 years. A lifelong member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church, Mr. Ward served in various capacities including trustee, deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and church treasurer for over thirty years. He was a former director for the Albemarle Savings & Loan and a current member of the Elizabeth City branch of B. B. & T. Advisory Board. Mr. Ward was active in civic and fraternal organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the Improved Order of the Red Men, Tribe #8 for more than 75 years, a member of the Eureka Lodge #317 AF & AM for over 60 years, member of the Sudan Shrine Temple, New Bern, member of the Pasquotank Arts Council and member of the Museum of the Albemarle. He was a 70 year member and past president of the Elizabeth City Kiwanis Club. Mr. Ward was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Coast Guard. He was life member of the USCG Auxillary.

Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Doris Morgan Ward of the home, two step daughters, Patricia Ann Ownley Daniels of Elizabeth City and Cynthia Ownley Wilbourne and husband, Stuart, of Hilton Head, SC; a sister, Annette W. Small and husband, Herbert, of Elizabeth City, NC, a son-in-law, Mackey Swain of Elizabeth City; three grandchildren, Kathy Cartwright and husband, Randy of Elizabeth City, NC, Mark Swain of Nags Head, NC, and Christian Swain of Raleigh, NC; four step grandchildren, Meagan E Lupton and husband, Corey and Adrianne L. Daniels all of Elizabeth City, NC, Rachel M. Wilbourne and Emily P. Wilbourne of Hilton Head, NC, and four great grandchildren, Garrett Cartwright, Noah Cartwright, Andrew Cartwright, and Abigail Cartwright all of Elizabeth City, NC. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Ellen D. Ward of Burwyn, PA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Ward Swain and a brother, Alvin N. Ward.

Services of Remembrance will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 3:00 o'clock in the Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends and relatives at a reception in the church social hall immediately following the service and at other times at their residence. The family suggests that memorial gifts either be made to the Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church, 700 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or the Charles & Doris Ward Scholarship c/o College of the Albemarle, P.
