Jose (Joe) Diaz, husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 14, 2013, at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was 64. During his lifetime he was often found serving in the church, helping others and working on his cars.

Joe was born on Dec. 8, 1948, and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. He lived part of his life in Denver, Colo. and Richmond, Utah. While in Utah, he worked for W.D.C.I. for 11 years and served as the Union Representative for the employees for many years. He made many life long friends, which he cherished, and was always quick to play a prank if needed.

Joe married Bertha Jackson on Nov. 15, 1967, and they later solemnized their marriage in the Logan LDS Temple in 1990 on the same date. They had three children: Melanee, Joe Jr. and Jason.

Joe served diligently in the LDS church as Elders Quorum President, Ward Mission Leader, High Priest Group Leader, Second Counselor in the bishopric and Bishop. Most recently he taught the gospel doctrine and temple prep classes in the Corpus Christi, Texas, 1st ward. He mentioned that teaching was his favorite calling in the church.

He loved family. He loved being around his children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and with great pride enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments. He cherished his time with them and made it a point to get to know them each individually. He was a father figure to many in his life. He loved life and helped anyone he could. Joe (Uelo to his grandchildren) often told stories of his grandchildren to friends and ward members.

Joe loved his wife and they were often seen taking long road trips to visit family and friends, or just to enjoy the world that was around them. Joe loved to drive, and they enjoyed sight-seeing along the way.

He is proceeded in death by his father Reyes Diaz, his mother Francisca Espinosa, stepfather Nicolas Mendoza, parents-in-law Bert and Laura Jackson, and brothers-in-law Raul Silvas and LaVern Jackson.

Interment will be in the Lewiston City, Utah Cemetery.
