Angela E. Higgins (nee Wilusz), 94 years, of Sylvania Ohio, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 6, 2013, in the Flower Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Toledo Ohio on April 20, 1918, to Walter and Mary Wilusz. She grew up in the Polish Village and graduated from Whitmer High School.
Angie lived a joyful and faith-filled life. She had an unwavering devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the Rosary twice daily. Angie believed in miracles.
Angie was beloved by all who knew her. And those who knew her will remember her as a fierce competitor who was always up for a spirited game of Scrabble ("Qi is a word-look it up!"), bridge or penny-ante poker. Angie also enjoyed her beautiful garden, and the fish pond built by her son, Rick. Angie was an accomplished and prolific knitter, and everyone who knew her eventually received one of her treasured handmade afghans. Not that these pursuits kept her perpetually at home: Angie was always up for an adventure, and at age 92 took a 40-mile trip on the back of her son Dave's Harley.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Gale A. Higgins; daughter, Elaine Krempa (John); parents, Walter and Mary Wilusz; brothers, Edmund, Louis, Walter, Frank; and sister Julia. She is survived by her loving children, Sharon Hanna, Richard Higgins, Robert Higgins, Gary Michael (Celeste) Higgins, Mary McGeary, Colleen (Ken) Neidert, Douglas Higgins, David (Pam) Higgins, and Kathleen (Larry) Hintz. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Friday, February 8, 2013, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. where a scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the mortuary on Saturday February 9, 2013, at 11:15 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sylvania Ohio. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
