Monte K. Smith, age 50, of North Platte, passed away Friday, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1962 to George W."Bill"and Twila Wilson-Smith. He attended Hershey High School graduating with the class of 1981. In high school he lettered in football and track. On November 17, 1984 he married Leonda Shepherd at the First Baptist Church. To this union was born two children. He worked on the farm for his dad, Bill, for many years. He also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Bob Spady, and Elliot's Automotive. He had to quit working in 2000 due to his health. Monte loved watching the Huskers and cheering for Hershey. He also loved to shoot pool. His grandbabies were his greatest joy, and he helped to raise Bryley for three years. He enjoyed visiting with people and having a good laugh. Monte was all about family and friends and he dearly missed his departed mom, Twila. His grandson Eiery referred to his grandfather as ‘pappa'. Survivors include his daughter, a son, three grandchildren, father; two brothers, a life long friend, several nieces, nephews and friends. Monte was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Eloise and George Wilson; mother Twila Smith; and several aunts and uncles. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
