Carrie "Joy" Norris
Carrie "Joy" Norris, 95, of Richmond, died at 12:20 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Joy was born Oct. 15, 1912, in rural Birchtree, the daughter of Harlan Jefferson and Charity (Bowman) Wood. She married Clarence "Punk" Norris of Orrick, on May 21, 1934; he preceded her in death in June of 1987.
She lived most of her life in Rayville before moving to Richmond four years ago. She was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include: three sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmy Eugene Norris and his wife, Vicenta, of Richmond, Jeffery Wayne Norris of Richmond, and Billy Don Norris of Excelsior Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bettie Louise Mitchell and her husband, Paul, of Rayville, and Peggy Ann Hackett and her husband, Junior, of Richmond; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, one son, Parrish Lynn Norris, who died in infancy; one brother, August Wood; and three sisters, Pearl Wood, Goldie Owens and Lee Etta Gutcher, preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Jeffery Wayne Norris Trust Fund.
Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crowley Cemetery in Rayville.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
