Evelyn was born to Emory Lee Jeffares and Mary Belle Piper Jeffares on July 20, 1923 in Atlanta, Georgia. After high school, she attended business school and worked in the food service industry at Cobb Hospital.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Bennie Lawson Bowen, who passed on February 7, 2001. She is also preceded by her parents Emory and Mary Belle Jeffares. Survivors include sister Helen Holladay and her husband Jack of Mableton, Verna Zicafoose of Lithonia, and Dorothy "Dot" Creel of Houston; nephews Jeff Creel of Houston, Pastor Paul Williams of Conyers, and Edward Bowen of California; neices, Alice Mitchell of Pennsylvania and Judy Williams of Hapeville.
A graveside service was held at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park with Pastor Paul Williams officiating.
