A lingering illness during which he underwent three major operations, last summer, ended at 4 o'clock this morning in the death of Sumner Butler, 53, former minister of Christian churches in Kansas and Colorado. The end came at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs. C. P. Butler near Farmington, in the house in which he was born. He was the eldest of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Butler's seven children.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Farmington Christian church and burial will be in the Pardee cemetery. Stanton & Stanton is in charge of arrangements. The C. P. Butler residence is on the homestead of his father, Pardee Butler, noted pioneer and abolitionist here before the Civil war. the grandfather of Sumner Butler, whose birth occurred Nov. 22 1893.
He attended the Farmington grade school and was graduated from the Atchison Community High school at Effingham in 1914. He then studied at the University of Johnson Bible college, Cumberland Tenn., and at Phillips university, Enid, Okla., where he was graduated in 1922. He held pulpits at Howard, Oswego and ( ) in Kansas, and at Monte Vista, Colo. After leaving the ministry he farmed in Atchison County until his death.The remainder of the article is unreadable.
