Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating.
Nyla M. "Susan" Haltom Blake was born the daughter of Murrel E. Haltom and Nyla M. (Bartholomew) Haltom Akin. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Missouri, where she attended school and graduated from Lebanon, MO High School.
She moved to Beatrice, Nebraska after graduating, where shee met and married James Earl Blake. They had two children. They were:
1. Amy Renee Blake
2. Christopher James Blake
Susan continued her education and attended beauty college in Hastings, Nebraska. Her husband, James, passed away and she married William Dale Blake, brother of her late husband. They had one daughter who was:
1. Lisa Marie Ann Blake
William D. Blake aka Bill also passed away. Nyla then moved to Sioux City, Iowa and married Michael Guillaume. They later divorced. They had no children and she retained her "Blake" name.
She enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, and crossword puzzles. She loved being outside and enjoyed her cats.
Survivors include a son, Christopher J. Blake of Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters, Amy R. Blake, her fiance, Jonathan W. Luethke (later married), and Lisa M. Blake of Atlantic, Iowa; her long time friend, Pat Sitzman of Akron, Iowa; her mother, Nyla M. (Bartholomew) Haltom Akin of Bolivar, MO; and a brother, Edward L. Akin of Bolivar, MO.
She was preceeded in death by her father, Murrell E. Haltom; and her husbands, James E. and William D. Blake, and her step-father, Ray L. Akin.
Cremated remains were kept by several family members, however the only marked gravesite interment of cremated remains is located at Mt. Gilead Cemetery, near Bolivar, Polk Co., MO and is located in the Akin Family cemetery plot next to her step-father, Ray L. Akin.
