US Soldier at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Pigford had enlisted into the army on September 13, 1875. He was described as having gray eyes, auburn hair, 5'-6" with a light complexion. Pigford was assigned to Company M, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. At the Battle of the Little Big Horn, Company M was assigned to Maj Marcus Reno's battalion. During the Valley Fight and retreat, Pigford reportedly assisted wounded Sgt O'Hara to Reno Hill, where O'Hara later died. Over the years, Pigford gave several interviews about the Little Big Horn. Many of his claims have been refuted or doubted. Pigford was married twice. His first wife was Frances Brown. And Phoebe Haire. They had three children: Joseph, Sadie and Charlie. Pigford died at Lock 3, Monongahela River, PA.
