Thomas's parents were James Herraman and Mary Ann Cromey.

At some stage Thomas changed the spelling of his surname to Herriman.

He arrived in Tasmania with his parents and siblings aboard the vessel 'British Sovereign' in 1841. After his father's retirement from the 96th regiment the family moved to South Australia aboard the vessel 'Endora' in 1841.

On 29/08/1867 he married Maria Burden at the residence of Mr Burden in Campbelltown, South Australia.

He died at his residence in Allison Street, St Leonards a suburb now known as Glenelg North in South Australia.

A death notice was published in 'The Advertiser' page 4 on 14/02/1907
