Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Word of Life Christian Center, 1804 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Private family burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, at a later date. Memorials may be made to Word of Life Christian Center, Rock Island.
Norma was born on Feb. 20, 1928, in Moberly, Mo., the daughter of Ralph and Mildred Appleman Miller. She married Charles M. Cross on June 14, 1946. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2002. She later married James D. Williams on Nov. 16, 2002.
Norma worked as the chief operator for Illinois Bell and later as the church administrator for Word of Life Christian Center. Norma was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Norma died after battling heart disease for several years. She died peacefully with her family at her side. Her life was centered around her faith in Christ. She was a charter member and elder at Word of Life Christian Center in Rock Island. Norma will be remembered as the first person to welcome a new guest at church and make them feel at home. She opened her home numerous times to people needing a helping hand and a place to stay.
Survivors include her husband, James D. Williams, Moline; son, David (Kathie) Cross, Dacula, Ga.; daughters, Nancy (Vic) Endress, Coal Valley, and Rachel Stephens, Rock Island; special niece, Karin (Charles) Willingham, Centralia, Mo.; grandsons, Christopher (Mary) Endress, Geneseo, Chad (Laura) Cross, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jason (Nicole) Stephens, St. Louis, Mo.; granddaughters, Michele (Matt) Phares, Rock Island, Sarah (Mike) Bartels, Coal Valley, Kelly (Bobby) Williams, Lawrenceville, Amy (Pastor Tanner) Payton, Rock Island, and Erin Stephens, Rock Island; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Pastor Steve Stephens; and brother, Don Miller.
