Jerry graduated from McNair High School in 1969. He was outgoing as well as outspoken an had a desire to succeed. He held his head up high and set out to accomplish all that he had dreamed in order to have a future of peace, joy, and happiness.
To achieve his goals, Jerry decided to attend college away from home in Moorhead, MN and (graduated from Moorhead State University in 1972 with a BA degree in Ethics and hilosophy. He continued graduate studies at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. With the idea of owning his own business, Jerry was hired as an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance Co. As a man of integrity who understood people and their needs, his delivery of service to his clients was no longer a job, but became his mission.
Led by the Holy Spirit in 1990 Jerry was instrumental in finding a building for the newly organized New Birth Baptist Church. As a charter member, Jerry was blessed with new opportunities. He was groomed by the Lord to be Chairman of Deacons, where he served for more than 10 years. At New Birth's current church location, his hands were responsible for artistic creations of building designs conducive for religious programs. He consistently rallied forces within the church to help those in need.
Jerry Banks departed this world at home on Monday, September 20, 2004 in Fort Worth, Texas.
He leaves·to mourn his passing a loving wife Patricia and son, Jeremy Ethan Banks. He is survived by six brothers and three sisters: Chester Levi Banks, Jr. (Margaret); Purnell C. Banks (Beatrice); Charles W. Banks (Gladys); Curtis O. Banks (Barbara); Fletcher L. Banks (Dollye); Isaac Banks; Mattie Banks Straughter (Rufus); Barbara Banks Franklin and Daisy Bernice Banks. He also leaves an uncle, Howard J. Austin (Ernestine), nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Even though Jerry has left this earthly home for rest, his memory lives on in all who knew him. His work ethics and belief of helping others is evident in the deeds of his family and friends.
