James Porter was the son of Henry W. & Nancy Adeline (Nixon) Blan. He had five (5) siblings; Mary Lillie, Sophronia Lulla, Serena Belle, John Henry, & William David Blan.

James married Ida Lue Belle Nixon before 1897. They had thirteen children; Lila Myrtle, Mamie May, Infant Baby, Richard Lee, Dorthelia L., George W., Roy Edward, Henry Houston, Mary Lillie, Nancy K., Floyd, Claud, & Carl Blan.

James and Ida lived in the Sebastian County area of Arkansas and LeFlore County area of Oklahoma all of their lives.

NOTE: The following information has been compiled from census & draft registration documents:

The headstone indicates that James was born in 1867 but that is considered to be incorrect.

In the 1870 census, James's father Henry Blan was 18 and unmarried.

In the 1880 census, James' parents are married and list 3 children - Mary Lillie 6, James 4, and Sophronia 1.

James gives his age in census records that allow him to be born in 1876, 1874, and 1872.

His WWI draft states he was born 1872. This is highly unlikely as his parents list him as 4 in 1880.

Based on the census & draft registration James was born about 1874-1876.

A possible reason for the differences is that the person carving the headstone transposed the numbers and they should read 1876 or that the person providing the information for the stone transposed the numbers.
