He was born in Green Township, Grant County, to the late Orange E. and Anna (Dill) Leisure. He was a self-employed farmer, retiring in 1985. His entire life was spent within three-quarters of a mile of his birth home.

Mr. Leisure attended first grade in the opening year of Point Isabel Elementary School and graduated from Windfall High School in 1937. Later, he attended Purdue University. He returned from college and farmed his entire life.

He married Janiece Jarvis on Sept. 21, 1941, and together they farmed Shady Nook Stock Farm until their retirement in 1985.

He was a member of Harmony Christian Church, Leisure; 60-year member of the Grant Masonic Lodge 637, Swayzee; and retired as a founding member of the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department, serving the past five years as assistant chief.

He served 14 years on Madison-Grant School Board and served as president during his past six years on the board. He also served as a member of the Madison-Grant School Holding Corp. during the construction of the high school.

He also was a member of the Grant County 4-H Fair Board and president of the Grant County Beef Breeders Association. He served 41 years as secretary-treasurer of the Knox Chapel Cemetery Board and remained secretary emeritus of Knox Chapel. He was charter member and past president of the Liberty-Green Lions Club.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, survivors include children, Susan D. Gordon and Phillip (Marilyn) Leisure, both of Fairmount: six grandchildren, Brian and Joe Gordon, Suzanne Teegarten, Sarah and Taylor Leisure and Kelly Rust; and five great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Lou Leisure in 1999; stepfather, Frank Weser; half-sister, Helen Evans; and stepbrother, William Weser.
