George Burke Smith age 72 of Vonore passed away Monday evening, February 11, 2013 at his home. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City and a member of the Social Action, Social Justice Committee. He was also a member of the East Tennessee Kairos Prison Ministry Community and an active participant in the Rarity Bay Christian Men's Fellowship and Spiritual Study Group. George was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Smith II.; mother, Mary V. Smith and sister, Patricia A. Lehr. He is survived by his wife, Deborah C. Smith; brothers, John F. Smith III and William J. Smith of Chicago, Illinois; along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews throughout the United States. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Father Christian Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery in Lenoir City. A luncheon will be held in the St. Thomas Parish Family Life Center following the graveside service.
