George Burke Smith age 72 of Vonore passed away Monday evening, February 11, 2013 at his home. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City and a member of the Social Action, Social Justice Committee. He was also a member of the East Tennessee Kairos Prison Ministry Community and an active participant in the Rarity Bay Christian Men's Fellowship and Spiritual Study Group. George was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Smith II.; mother, Mary V. Smith and sister, Patricia A. Lehr. He is survived by his wife, Deborah C. Smith; brothers, John F. Smith III and William J. Smith of Chicago, Illinois; along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews throughout the United States. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Father Christian Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery in Lenoir City. A luncheon will be held in the St. Thomas Parish Family Life Center following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or East Tennessee Kairos Prison Ministry. Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements.
