US Congressman. He attended La Grange College, Alabama, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1839 and commenced to practice in Somerville, Tennessee, For many years he was Brigadier General in command of the Tennessee State Militia. In 1855, he was elected as the candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. Not a candidate for renomination, he continued the practice of law until his death on his plantation at age 43.
