Joseph Michael Balek, 56, 101 Roberta Lane, Belleville (formerly of Murphysboro) died at 4 a.m. Friday at home.

He was a salesman for Gruenselder Packing Co. of St. Louis. He was a former Kroger store manager in Murphysboro and lived there about 10 years. The past seven years he has lived in Belleville.

He was a member of Moolah Shrine, the Scottish Rite Consistory and the Erwin Masonic Lodge, all of St. Louis, and the Murphysboro Elks Lodge where he was a past exalted ruler.

He was born Jan. 6, 1906 in Chicago. He was married to the former Rosalie Sanders on March 12, 1947, in Memphis, Tenn. He leaves his wife; sisters, Mrs. Rose McGinnis, and Mrs. Lillian Fluery, both of Chicago; brothers Frank, Charles, George, Rudolph, William and James Balek, all of Chicago.

Friends may call after 4 p. m. today until services at the Meyer-Denny Funeral Home, Murphysboro. Masonic services will be held at 7 p. m. today at the funeral home by Murphysboro Masonic Lodge No. 498. The funeral will be at 2 p. m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Oscar O. Maerker of Sparta officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery, Murphysboro.
