Retired missionary and pastor, Bethany resident Rev. Donald Scarlett Jr., 79, went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2013. One of ten children, Don was born March 5, 1933 in Danville, Illinois to Rev. Don Scarlett Sr. and Tobitha Hummer Scarlett. After serving in the Navy from 1951 – 1954, he enrolled in Olivet Nazarene University to prepare for the ministry. He pastored churches in Indiana, Iowa and Florida as well as spent 18 years as a missionary for the Church of the Nazarene in South Africa. He retired with his wife Bonnie to Bethany to be near family and enjoyed working with the special needs children on the Putman City school buses. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Bonnie; children Yvonne, Ron and Cyndi; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; and 4 sisters. Visitation will be at Mercer-Adams on February 14th from 6:30pm to 8pm. Funeral service will be held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, February 15th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gracious Promise Foundation, 1021 Pacific Ave, Kansas City, KS 66102.
