Byron L. Bailey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother passed away in Lawton, OK on February 10th, 2013.

Burial with full military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Byron was born on November 13th, 1934 to Lawrence and Mary Bailey in Kansas City, Missouri.

On July 24th, 1953, he married the love of his life, Barbara Anne Marshall. Byron and Barbara had two children, Lawrence William Bailey of Dallas, TX and Karen Leslie Cross of Lawton, OK.

On February 9th, 1955, Byron joined the US Army and was shipped to Germany where he was a member of the MP's and a member of the US Army Pistol Team. He served a tour in Korea and worked at the Pentagon with President Lyndon Johnson. In 1969 and 1970 he honorably served his country in Vietnam as a member of his beloved "Big Red One", the First Infantry Division. His awards and decorations include the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4 awards) National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, 1 Overseas Bar and the Meritorious Service Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster). Byron retired from the Army in 1975.

From 1975 to 1999, Byron continued to serve his country as a civil servant and member of the Jag Corps at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he met and kept many wonderful friends.

Byron was a good and decent man who touched many lives and who gave of himself without question or hesitation. Byron was unwavering in his love and commitment to his family, his country and his God. His capacity for love was both limitless and everlasting, and he asked nothing in return.

Byron's joy in life was his wife, his children, his grand children and his great grandchildren, his sister Sandra and his many friends. Byron was a very intelligent man whose faith was strong and never left him. He was a decent man who lived his life the right way. There was no grey area in his life. He passed on these values to his children and grand children through teaching and through the example of how he lived his life.

Byron loved fishing with his kids and grand kids, traveling with his family, photography, and wood working. Like everything else, he was self taught and left many beautiful pieces behind. Like the man himself, his work was beautiful and meticulous.

Byron was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and Order of the Eastern Star. He also served as Bethel Guardian for Jobs Daughters in Lawton, OK and traveled many miles up and down the highway in support of his daughter and the many young women that were members of this organization. He was a lifelong Republican and and proud member of the NRA, only fitting as he was an excellent marksmen.
