Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - November 18, 1990. Deceased Name: ERNEST JEPPSEN. Ernest C. Jeppsen, age 87, died November 16, 1990 in Salt Lake City after suffering from cancer. Born July 24, 1903 in Mantua, Box Elder County, Utah, he was the oldest of 6 children born to Conrad Nielsen Jeppsen and Laurine Nicoline Nielsen Jeppsen. He married Dora Adams on June 10, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was involved in education most of his life, teaching eight years in jr. and sr. high schools, and eight years at the jr. college level including the College of Southern Utah, Weber College, and the Church College of Hawaii. He spent 9 years in teaching and administration at Utah State University and 13 years at Brigham Young University, serving as the Dean of the College of Industrial and Technical Education and as the Dean of the General College. He spent 8 years in foreign service for the U.S. Government including Chief of Education Mission and Country Director for the Institute of Inter-American Affairs, Technical Cooperation Administration in Panama, R.P.; Chief of Education and Technical Training for the Near East and African Division of the Technical Cooperation Administration, Washington, D.C.; consultant to the Organization to the European Economic Cooperation, Paris, France; consultant for Stanford University in Manila, Philippines; and consultant for the Ford Foundation in Argentina and Chile. His special assignments included consultant to Vocational and Technical Education for the Odell MacConnell Associates, Palo Alto, California, 1964; member of Advisory Committee for ASEE's Engineering Technology Education Study, 1969-71; and member of the Select Committee on Higher Education for the Latter-day Saint Church Educational System, 1971-72. He assisted in the preparation of a number of publications in cooperation with the governments of Panama, France, Italy, The Philippines, Argentina, and Chile. He was a member of the Monument Park 3rd Ward and served in leadership positions in the LDS Church in Panama; Paris, France; The Philippines and Hawaii. He served an LDS mission to New York and Connecticut with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Dora; and his children, Dr. E. Alan Jeppsen and Maren Jeppsen, both of Salt Lake; a son-in-law, Dr. James B. Mayfield and daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Jeppsen; his brothers, Malcolm S. Jeppsen, and Harvey Jeppsen, and a sister, Mae Duncan; and 10 grandchildren, Jim Mayfield, Robert Mayfield, Debbie Montgomery, Steve Mayfield, and Isaac, Jonas, Jerusha, Micah, Simeon and Talitha Jeppsen.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Merlene Mayfield; a brother, Elmer Jeppsen; and a sister, Norine Montgomery. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Funeral services on Wednesday, November 21st, at 12 noon, Monument Park 3rd Ward, 2215 East Roosevelt Avenue (1450 South) where friends may call from 10 - 11:45 am, prior to services. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
