Edward H. Hassler

July 20, 1923 - January 20, 2013

SUBLIMITY - Edward joined his two sisters, Alma and Bonita in Heaven on January 20, 2013. He spent his entire life farming his 3rd generation farm in Sublimity. Edward loved people and could entertain them with his amusing stories for hours. He was quite a memorable character, indeed. Even though his formal education was limited, he was a skilled mechanic. Edward could take apart his Caterpillar in the Fall and put it back together like new in the spring. He enjoyed tinkering in the shop, welding during the off season, fishing and hunting, especially pheasant hunting. Edward never married, but treated his nieces and nephews as family. Some joined him farming on different occasions. His sister, Alma Merzenich had six children; Mary Brockway, Dr. Edward Merzenich, Dr. Michael Merzenich, Theresa Sprague, James Merzenich, and Catherine Ellis. His other sister, Benita Ebner, had five children: Alois(Ollie) Ebner, John Ebner, Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Ebner, Douglas Ebner, and Rebecca (Becki Ebner) Cook. We shall all miss his jovial spirit. Edward was a lifetime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Knights of Colimbus and St. Boniface Catholic Church. A special Thank you to Mike, Judy, Steve and Travis Pelletier, for all their care and kindness to Edward over recent years. Recitation of Rosary will be on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 am both at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity. There will be a reception following and all are welcome. Private interment in St. Boniface Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Regis High School. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
