She was born on August 23, 1943 in Harrison County, Indiana, the daughter of Leo and Myrtle Louise (Satterfield) Thomas. She had lived in Jefferson County in the Dupont and Deputy communities and had moved to North Vernon in 2002. She graduated from Lanesville High School in 1962. Mrs. Gessler enjoyed doing puzzle books and gardening.
She married Roland Gessler in Franklin on February 28, 1965 and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1985. Survivors include her daughters, Annette (Ed) Austin of Scottsburg, Lora Rice of Lexington, Indiana, Debbie Gessler of North Vernon, Sharon Gessler of Dupont; her step daughters, Rebecca Lucas of Alert and Shelia Moore of Butlerville; her brother, Lawrence Thomas of Jonesville; her 9 grandchildren, her 3 step grandchildren, and her 4 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Leo Thomas and her step grandson, Christopher Jayne.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Poer officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home.
